PHYSICAL THOUGHTS

The medium of expression and communication should correspond to the nature of the process. The LVT process involves tangible molecules of meaning that can be fitted together or linked in all sorts of ways.

Molecules of meaning are embodied in physical objects such as the hexagonal shape with a magnetic backing.

The magnetic hexagons attach to metal-backed whiteboards and can be moved on their surfaces. The surface of the hexagons can be cleaned and re-used.

They have weight and structure, so that they intrinsically correspond to what molecules of meaning are.

They can be handled and displayed so that brain, hand and eye can assist each other.

Their size depends on how many people have to be able to see them - the larger the group, the further they are likely to be from the display surface.

The hexagonal shape enables them to fit together and evoke the sense of molecules linking up. It is not essential, only helpful.

There can be less tangible objects used such as Post-Its, which can be found in hexagonal shapes.

In general, any object can be used that can be written on and placed and moved about a surface.

Computer generated labels can be printed to stick on surfaces of objects instead of writing on them.

Hexagons can be generated by computer software. Molecules of meaning and their combinations can then be projected onto large screens for visibility for large groups by suitable equipment. Work can be saved for future reference.

Through shareware, people can interact at a distance by sharing molecules of meaning and working on them together.

The physical technology is an essential way of embodying thinking in tangible reality.

It also serves to give users access to the same data-base of meaning as each other, which they have themselves generated, and also to display their thinking process to each other.

LVT is thinking made visible = more conscious and reflective

Three ways of thinking with the same MMs

The resultant theory is then based on evidence - the MMs - and argument - made visible in tangible form.
