TRANSFORMATION OF KNOWLEDGE INTO UNDERSTANDING
Knowledge is how we recall the past, while understanding is the basis of how we can act in the future. Understanding involves the new, the uncertain and the unknown.
In LVT, recalled experience (as molecules of meaning) is the raw material that is taken through a work cycle to generate understanding. Every transformer (or engine) needs its appropriate 'fuel' and the primary input of molecules of meaning is necessary if understanding is to be generated.
FOCUS
is the way in which attention is brought to bear both individually and collectively on the material of experience
the people aligned with the same purpose and dealing with the same world
such that there can be a shared work
of extracting and expressing molecules of meaning
that are inherently interconnected
GATHER - ORGANISE - UNDERSTAND
are the main steps in using these molecules to generate new meanings
culminating in a theory of reality
APPLY
is taking the emergent understanding out of the process into new forms of work as
decisions, mutual relations, agreed standards, communications, research, consultations, documents, definitions, visions and personal realisations

Though structured process is usually presented as a linear process (sometimes in a circle) or a series of steps, this is only for purposes of description because the real process involves many levels each having its own kind of molecules of meaning and these molecules are in communication with each other.
Going through a series of steps (like a machine) is easier to begin with, but is only an introduction to the more real organic process.
The real organic process of generating understanding is going on all the time but our usual thinking is on the outside of it and imitating mechanical operations. LVT links the mechanical and the organic by using physical tools.
